About Me

Gail Lalk is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor  in the state of New Jersey,  specializing in therapy for adolsecents and young adults. She opened her private practice, Young Adult Therapy, in 2014, which focuses on providing mental health treatment for adolescents and young adults age 13 to 30. In September, 2016 she received the "Best of Morris Plains" award in the area of psychotherapy. From March 2010 to July 2016, she was the primary adolescent counselor at The Willow Tree Center in Morris Plains, New Jersey.  In those six years, Gail  provided one-on-one counseling for over 200 adolescents and adults who were referred primarily because of issues related to their use or abuse of drugs and alcohol. She has taught the prevention program "Keys to Inner Visions" to several hundred middle school and high school students in Morris County. This program involves the students in interactive group discussions about topics that affect their daily decision making and behaviors, including family dynamics, peer communications, personal identity issues, anxiety and depression, social networking, bullying, racism, and substance use and abuse. She is also a certified trainer for the prevention program "We're Not Buying It 2.0" that addresses how media influences children and adolescents in their choices about drugs, alcohol, and other risky behaviors. 


In the last six years Gail has received advanced training in social anxiety, panic disorder, ethics, trauma processing, sleep disorders, PTSD, mindfulness techniques, suicide prevention, DiClimente's Readiness for Change model,  grief counseling, the gut microbiome and and other topics related to mental health.

Gail completed the 270 hours of course work and the 3000 hours of internship required to be licensed as an LCADC (Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor) and received her license in December, 2014. 

Prior to her employment at The Willow Tree Center, Gail was a Student Assistance Counselor in several K-8 private schools through the Sunrise House Foundation's Choices for Change program. In this capacity, Gail provided one-on-one counseling for students struggling in their academic environments. 

Gail received her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2007.  In 2006, while she was at Fairleigh Dickinson, she led a 3-person team to a second-place finish in the annual National Ethics Competition for graduate students sponsored by the American Counseling Association. 

Prior to being a therapist, Gail received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis and was an Electrical Engineer for 14 years. She is the mother of two girls and has been active in the community, serving a two year term as the Music Boosters President at Morristown High School and previously volunteering as a recreational youth soccer coach for Morris United Soccer League for 11 years. She is an active participant in USA Triathlon, and she is currently a French horn player with the Hanover Wind Symphony, where she also serves on the board of directors.
